PRA/DRA

Frequently Asked Questions

  • As evident form the name, a Preliminary (Stage 1) is an initial and basic assessment conducted as a ‘first step’ screening to identify whether or not UXO risk may exist at a site. This can help either ‘rule out’ a site from needing any further investigation, or identify the need for a Detailed (Stage 2) Risk Assessment (DRA) to be completed. A DRA is an in-depth investigation into a site that evaluates the likelihood of encountering UXO and defines how the risk should be managed.

  • This is a common term used to describe Stage 1 & Stage 2 of the risk assessment process viz. the Preliminary & Detailed UXO Risk Assessments.

  • A PRA considers basic indicators of UXO risk, such as, Historical bombing density (WWI/WWII), Military activity or installations nearby, Historic land use, Post-war development and recommends whether or not a DRA is needed for the site. A DRA includes Comprehensive desktop study performed by UXO specialists. It uses extensive historical research, multiple archival sources, and analysis of site imagery and mapping to provide a site-specific risk analysis related to the planned works. It also lays out a risk mitigation plan with recommendations for suitable measures to be applied on site.

  • Costs depend on the complexity and size of the site, which forms the basis of Artios’ competitive pricing. Artios aims to deliver a PRA within 02 working days and a DRA within 4-5 working days, subject to existing commitments.

  • Unless located in area where modern day military activity continues, the potential for UXO contamination to have occurred at a given site is unlikely to change. However, as the nature of land use/development levels on site is subject to change, it is advisable to have the UXO Risk Assessment reviewed to account for this, as it may alter the level of risk assessed for the site.

  • Artios provides a Peer-Review service, wherein we cross examine the findings and review the recommendations for a given site made by another provider, as needed.

Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose.

What began as a passion project has evolved into something more. We’re proud of where we’ve been and even more excited for what’s ahead. What sets us apart isn’t just our process—it’s the intention behind it. We take time to understand, explore, and create with purpose at every turn.
